Well, that was an interesting Board of Education Action Meeting to say the least. Seems someone finally called out Mr. Shi for his failed leadership.
Kudos to Board Vice-President Beth Moroney for pointing out to Mr. Shi that he has to work with all Board Members whether they agree with him or not or whether he likes them or not.
Seems Mr. Shi won't work with any Board Members who don't agree with him or his opaquely single-minded agenda.
'I'm not going to work with Board Members who say No.' Well, that's nice!
All of this nonsense prompted by Mr. Shi's seriously flawed process to pick a new interim superintendent. You know, that secret process where not only Board Members were shut-out but the public too. Seems Mr. Shi likes to do things his way and if you disagree with him, he'll cut you out of the decision-making process.
Apparently, his leadership style is an ineffective temperament trumped only by his insensitivity with how he communicates.
"Look at yourself, you're so emotional' - he says to Mrs. Moroney in response to her critique of his leadership. Whoa! Who says that to someone on the Board - especially when she wasn't. And then to try and go after her for voting No on the change in Risk insurance carrier as support for ignoring her?
Really? She's an elected official and has a right to vote anyway she believes is best.
So, while Mr. Shi may have the best of intentions - he can't effectively communicate it to the Board or the public and really, really, really needs to Step-down as Board President.
Here's the Board of Ed Action Meeting on 6/18/18:
Just as an aside, while I applaud the Board's efforts to examine the $pending efficiency problems they've had for years, Mr. Shi has to Stop saying he's Saving money for the taxpayers with these insurance thingies. He's Saving Nothing for the taxpayers. All they're doing is repurposing the difference by changing vendors to another budget line.
Anyhoo, the rest of the Board really needs to step-Up and move Mr. Shi out of the Board President role. It's just gonna get worse as we go forward under Mr. Shi's leadership.

Whoa..just another reason why Board of Mythomania's Jerry 'Needs to Step-down' Shi - Really Needs to Step-down!?!
Just saw this ad (below) in the Star Ledger today. Seems somewhat interesting since the Board has said zilch, nada, nothing publicly about what steps are being taken now to recruit a new superintendent and when they're planning to inform the public.
Super Dr. Richard 'Looking for the Exit Ramp' O'Malley resigned in the papers back in March and the Board unanimously accepted his official resignation at the end of April - yet they have said nothing about his resignation or their plans to fill the spot until this shows up today.
So, what has the Board been doing all this time besides keeping the public out of the loop and uninformed?
Not for nothing but you have only until July 1st to submit a resume and a start date on or before July 30th. Really?!?
So, looks like we go from Shi blocking public comment before the Board takes action to now blocking any discussion or input of what they're actually doing here.
This thing stinks and Shi needs to step-down as Board President. You simply can't rely on this guy to make sure that all the stakeholders are included in the decision-making process for the next interim/superintendent.
Anyhoo, you should pay attention to what's going on over there on Mythomania Lane - doesn't look like it's any good and you might want to pay attention to who they come up with for an interim.

Gotta like those County tax increases (year-after-year) here in the 'DemBadLands' of Downtown Edison!?!
Tuesday, June 12, 2018
See who's generating Your 2018 Edison Property tax increases!
Just so you know who to thank when you see them around town.
Total Edison Property tax rate for 2018 is 5.491, which is up 11.5-cents or 2.14% over last year's 5.376. Of that 11.5-cents, 6.6-cents (2.2%) comes from the School district, 3.0-cents (3.4%) comes from the County and the remaining 1.9-cents (1.47%) comes from the Municipal government.
Let's give a Big round of applause to Mayor Tom 'Now 17.1% but Won't Debate' ChoiLankey, Jerry 'Needs to Step-down' Shi and, let's not forget, Charlie 'I Abstain' Tomaro, aka Deputy Dog - for another big increase from the County.
Anyhoo, another year of taxes all around here in the 'DemBadLands' of Downtown Edison.

Señor Lankey's 2018 Sewer tax bills for Edison are out - and Up again, of course!?!
Well, it looks like Mayor Tom 'Now 17.1% but Won't Debate' ChoiLankey is taking the sewer taxes up again.
This time it's another 1.7% for Residential and 1.8% - 2.6% for Non-Residential.
He's the breakdown from Ordinance O.2008-2018:
So, since Señor Lankey has taken over, he has successfully doubled the Non-Residential rates and brought the Residential rate up by some 46%.
Anyhoo, good thing we have the 7 processing clerks over there on 100 Oligarchy Blvd. for checks and balances.

Edison's 2018 Est 3rd Qtr Tax Bills are out - and your taxes are Up again, of course!?!
Well, here's a Shocker - yet another tax increase for 2018.
Since Mayor Tom 'Now 15.4% but Won't Debate' ChoiLankey still hasn't produced a Muni budget for 2018 (half the budget year is almost over and if they wait any longer we won't need a budget - we'll have the actual numbers) and the County, which adopted their budget back in March but still hasn't released their County tax and Open Space tax numbers for Edison according to a response to an OPRA Request I made to the Muni Clerk's office, we end up with these estimated tax bills.
Kind of hard to understand why they can't release the County tax numbers for Edison now.
Got to love these estimated tax bills though - all they give you is a number to pay. No explanation of what it represents or how they came up with it.
Be that as it may, it's not hard to figure out what the total property tax rate ( Muni, Library, Garbage, County, County Open Space & School) they used for this estimate.
Just take your tax bill installments for the first and second quarter, February & May, and add to it the number on the estimated tax bill you just received for the 3rd and 4th quarter. Add those 4 quarters up and divide that number by your home's assessed value divided by 100.
If you do that, you'll find that the total property tax rate they used for this estimate here in the 'DemBadLands' of Downtown Edison is 5.491 per 100. And when you compare that number to last year's rate of 5.376 - you'll find the total property tax increase is 11.5-Cents or 2.14%
So, if you live in that imaginary home assessed at 178,300, then your taxes are going up by $205. Since I don't know what the County or Muni budget numbers are at this time, all I can say is we know of that 11.5-Cent increase, the School tax is 6.6-Cents so the Muni and County taxes combined have to be 4.9-Cents.
Therefore, of that $205 increase for the average home assessed at 178,300, roughly $118 is for the school and $87 is for all the Muni & County taxes.
If you don't live in that imaginary home assessed at 178,300, they just take your home's assessed value divided by 100 and multiply that number by 6.6-Cents for your school tax increase and 4.9-Cents to get you Muni & County increase.
Anyhoo, can't wait to see what's in this year's Muni budgets, whenever it comes out.
