You know, it's the silly season here and everyone should remember as you read all these fancy campaign flyers coming to your door that one can be truthful and be misleading too.
Take my word for it - misleading people to get their vote is Not a good thing but nothing new in the 'DemBadLands' of Downtown Edison.
Take, for example, this Edison First flyer where School Board Member Ms. Peng - who is now running for Council claims to of delivered a 0% school tax increase.
Well, that's truthful if you look at the fiscal year school budget for 2021-22 but Misleading if you understand that we're taxed on a calendar year basis for the school budget.
If you look at the school budget for 2021-22 from their website below, you'll see how that works and you'll see that the school budget for 2021-22 resulted in a $107 school tax increase on the average home of $180,392 for the 2021-22 school year.
Now, why is it misleading? Because they are taking advantage of the overall lack of knowledge about how the school tax is determined for property tax purposes. They could of simply explained what that 0% fiscal year tax change meant and why and how you would see it on your property tax bills when converted to a calendar year basis - but they didn't.
Of course, Peng comes from a school board led by none other than Mr. Shi-shed - who often makes outlandish claims about savings that only exist in his own mind and not on your school tax bills:
So, they leave you to believe their 0% school tax claim and hoping your own eyes don't see that $107 school tax increase on the school districts's website.
